KILIN MICHAEL BROOKS
In this galaxy there’s a mathematical probability of three million
Earth-type planets. And in the universe, three million million galaxies
like this. And in all that, and perhaps more...only one of each of us.
Character Name: Kilin Michael Brooks
Nickname(s): Kil, Brooks, Mike
Age: 67 years
Gender: Male
Species: 1/2 Atarian, 1/4 Vulcan, 1/4 Trill

The bureaucratic mentality is the only constant
in the universe.
in the universe.
Physical Appearance: He is fairly tall, around 6'3". His whole body is the odd black, neon lined color, though if one looks closely, on his face and down his body, the black trill spots can be seen. He did not inherit the vulcan ears, but is indeed part vulcan.
Dressing Style: The sort of suit that he is wearing in the picture, or the robes of that Atarians, all of which he uses his replicator rations to make.
Anatomy: He has the slight telepathic connection to the Atarians, so he would know if something bad happened to the Atarians, and the two hearts. He has green vulcan blood, which doesn't show through his skin due to the nature of his Atarian skin. He has the ability to connect with a symbiont, but he doesn't have one.
Other: He looks fairly young for his age, but that is because of both his Vulcan genes and his Atarian genes, both species which live fairly long.
Play-By: Logan Lerman

Quirks: When thinking, his hand rest on his chin; when nervous, he'll twidle his thumbs
Overall:
Kilin is a man of principals, having found a good balance between his Vulcan/Trill half and his Atarian half. He has a very strong sense of duty and will try his hardest to do the best he can, even if that means skipping needed sleep in order to get something done, which can get him in trouble with the doctor sometimes. He believes in the Atarian religion, though sometimes he may quote the vulcan religious leaders from the teaching his mother gave him about Vulcan. He did not know much about Trill, as his mother's mother was Trill, but died when his mother was young, and therefore she was raised by her Vulcan father, and did not learn much of her Trill side, besides that learned in school. Anyways, he subscribes to his Atarian beliefs, but does believe in much of what the Vulcan's believe.
Kilin unfortunately has a bit too strong of a sense of duty and does not like anything personal, or at least feels uncomfortable when something becomes too personal to him and someone points out he's getting a bit personal. Basically, if he doesn't know he's getting close or personal, he's fine, but once he knows, he'll distance himself greatly from that person, thing or mission. He will go into what those who consider him a friend call his "duty state", and revert to a mind set of doing what he is supposed to on the ship, and ignore personal relationships with others. He will refuse to admit to loving anyone, nor will he "allow" himself to love anyone, but will keep relationships up, because his duty is to protect those people and to do that, they must trust him, which many do, even if they do not like him.
Kilin has a knack for learning languages with ease and extremely quickly. Currently he can speak over 500 languages, including some that they heard in the last 50 years or so which almost no one else onboard knows. His ability to learn languages well stems from his resourcefulness. He can use his knowledge to figure out things that perhaps others may not connect, a possible way out of an impossible situation, or that "Egwat reter; wastiw!" in the context of spotting him when someone was simply transported to the bridge, pointing to him, and yelling, could mean, "The devil is among us; run!" He's able to take what he knows of other languages apply it to others and come up with a close theory behind the language, all within a second. Also, if one goes into his room, one would find it a complete mess. He's not the best with organization, but does keep the ready room neat, though the books on the book shelf are in no particular order and simply placed there, or on the top of his desk.
How we deal with death is at least as important
as how we deal with life.

Overall History:
Kilin was born upon the USS Discovery 67 years ago to his half vulcan half trill mother and Atari father. He was the only child of the two, who found each other later in life, and wanted only one child to carry on after they were gone. That child was Kilin, who at the time did not have a middle name nor a last name, those would come later. He was always taught discipline, which was very important to both of his parents, and the importance of the ship, even from a young age. He would be sent to school the instant he was old enough, and began learning there as well. His parents demanded greatness from him, and in his grades he failed for the longest time. He got low grades that were barely passing, not really caring about the information, knowing the information but not working for his grade, working just enough to pass.
When he entered his internship, he was assigned with one other student, Michael Jay Brooks, a 3/4 human young man. The two fought a lot of the time and people would never guess that Kilin really liked spending time with Michael, and vice versa. They were incredible friends. The two of them worked in communications. Michael was an extreme overachiever and would sacrifice his health to get things done, and Kilin strived to be like him. However, when the two boys were 18 earth years old (Kilin did not look it. In fact, he still looked like a little kid due to the slower aging body he has), Kilin made a mistake (though it was actually Michael's miscalculation) in a relay in the communication device that maintained contact with Earth. It caused a large sparking, and melted many of the circuits. Michael, who was out of the conduit at the time, monitoring Kilin's progress, quickly climbed in and pulled Kilin out.
Thing was, Kilin was more resistant to burns, just needing the water replenished to his skin for it to heal correctly, and while Michael had lesser burns, Michael was burned too much. Kilin and Michael were next to each other in their beds, and their last conversation was how Michael always wanted to become captain, and Kilin telling him he could, Michael responding that he wouldn't have the chance, asking Kilin if he could make his dream come true through him, Kilin promised he would become captain one day for Michael, who then said good-bye to Kilin forever. Michael died, and Kilin took on his first name as his middle name and Michael's last name as his (Kilin's) last name as well. The accident was investigated, and found that it was not Kilin's fault, but Michael's miscalculation.
After that, Kilin began his whole distancing himself from others, besides what was necessary. After all, everyone could die on him any day, and he would feel the pain he felt when he lost his best friend in the entire world. He caught the attention of many of the senior crew, who saw him as a hard worker who could eventually become captain one day. He was assigned to the bridge more often, and began getting promotions every few years. Before he knew it, at age 59, he was first officer. That position would not last long, for three years later the ship encountered a very hostile group of aliens, who kidnapped the captain, killed him, leaving Kilin the acting captain, who managed to retrieve their captain's body, and negotiate a cease fire, part of the problems being the lack of communication among the two groups, the aliens believing they wanted to hurt them, and because the aliens were not ones for surrender, and were incredibly untrusting and paranoid. Anyways, captain dies, Kilin became the captain, and was officially given the job in the "Passing the Torch" ceremony which made him the official captain 5 years ago. He is still the captain, and the crew does trust Kilin, even if they may not like him, or feel he pushes them away too much.
